It is a sequel to the original Speedball and contains new dynamics and rules to the game.

The game was commercially successful and has been dubbed one of the best games of all time for the Amiga (Amiga Power magazine). The music received the 1991 Golden Joystick Award for the Best Soundtrack and in 1994 PC Gamer US named the game the 24th best video game ever. Various remakes have been made such as Speedball 2100, Speedball 2: Tournament and Speedball 2: Evolution.
