Another World, which is known as Out of the World in North America, is a cinematic platformer game which was designs and developed entirely by Éric Chahi. The story follows the tale of a young scientist named Lester who finds himself transported to a dangerous alien world. Lester soons finds an alien ally, of whcih neither can take damage – and a single shot will end the game.

Another World received critical acclaim for the use of cinematic effects. It also went on to influence many other video games and designers, and inspired titles such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill.

The game was originally released on the Amiga and Atari ST but has seen various ports and versions on a multitude of platforms since the original release in 1991.

Éric Chahi deveoped his own game engine, the entirety of the game’s art and animations in vector form and rotoscoping in a period of two years where he worked alone on the entire games development. Jean-François Freitas assisted with the games music.
